Ozzy Osbourne
February 3, 2011
HP Pavilion, San Jose, CA
Mediocre show at best. Nothing bad per se but nothing good either.
Part of the problem could have been that HP Pavilion is notorious for its awful sound but even allowing for that it seemed like the show never came together. Ozzy pranced around the stage looking much the worse for wear and Gus G, his lead guitarist, seemed most interested in perfecting his position in front of the on-stage fan so his hair was blowing just so.
Ozzy kept the band on a pretty short leash so there nothing really interesting and certainly no interplay between the band members. The most interesting part of the shows was when Ozzy left the stage and let the band perform without him for about 15-20 minutes. They did instrumental version of Electric Funeral -> guitar solo that borrowed heavily from Eddie Van Halen’s Eruption -> drum solo (uninspired but the drum kit on hydraulics sure looked good) -> Electric Funeral.
The song selection came evenly from his first couple solo albums (Suicide Solution, I Don’t Know, Crazy Train, Mr Crowley) and Sabbath tunes (Fairies Wear Boots, War Pigs, Electric Funeral, Iron Man, Paranoid) with a handful of later (crappy, IMO) material that I didn’t recognize.
Slash opened and I must say I was shockingly unimpressed.
