Scott Mauvais is a former Microsoft executive specializing in AI governance, tech-driven social impact, and cross-sector innovation. Over a 23-year career at Microsoft, he held senior leadership roles spanning enterprise consulting, corporate innovation, civic engagement, and philanthropy.
In his most recent role as Senior Director of AI and Global Partnerships for Microsoft Philanthropies, he led the philanthropic portfolio for Microsoft's flagship AI for Good initiatives, along with workforce development and social entrepreneurship. He structured and deployed $125 million in joint investments with Fortune 500 companies, governments, and global institutions. His work focused on applying advanced technologies to address complex challenges in workforce development, sustainability, and urban resilience.
Previously, he led Microsoft Cities, where he collaborated with city leaders and civic organizations to accelerate the development of innovation ecosystems and drive economic growth. Earlier, as Director of the Microsoft Technology Center, he led a team of senior architects and built a co-innovation program for Fortune 500 executives and government leaders to design and validate solutions to their most complex strategic and technical challenges.
He brings expertise across AI governance, public-private partnership models, and systems-level innovation. He is a frequent speaker on the societal implications of emerging technologies, often focusing on unintended consequences and second-order effects in complex systems.
He serves on the national boards of the Institute of Responsible AI Robotics and the Urban Age Institute, advises startups and growth-stage companies, and co-owns The WELL, the groundbreaking online community founded in 1985.
